No Night is Too Long A video Review By Shawn Bailey It has been nearly a year since I sat down and watched a movie. Today, I took a couple of hours off to watch Barbara Vines, No Night is Too Long. I purchased it at Amazon.com for about $4.00. It’s about an English student named Tim Cornish (Lee Williams) and his relationship with Dr. Ivo Steadman (Marc Warren) a lecturer at the university in Suffolk that Tim attends. Although Tim has a girlfriend at the beginning of the movie, there is no doubt that he has no problems dating a guy. The relationship between Tim and Ivo begins with a kiss shared in a lift (elevator). Things are fine between the two of them until Ivo confesses to Tim that he is in love with him. Tim is a selfish guy who can’t fall in love with anyone, including Ivo. But the moment Ivo is supposed to leave for the summer to work on a cruise ship headed for Alaska; Tim falls apart and wants to go with him because he doesn’t want to be alone for the summer. Ivo finally agrees to take Tim with him and before Tim even boards the first plane he is sorry that he’d agreed to go. What is to follow is man at his worst when he can’t get his way. Tim had a one stand affair before he left to go to Alaska and stupidly confesses to Ivo before they depart. Ivo, takes it badly, punches Tim in the nose, but still takes Tim with him to Alaska. It is true that a leopard can’t changed its spots because the minute Ivo announces that he has to leave Tim for ten days to work on the cruise Tim gets all bitchy and lonely and goes and finds himself another bedmate. And for the first time he falls in love and decides to break it up with Ivo when he returns. Tim should have just been smart and stayed in Suffolk. Ivo refuses to break up with him so he can go to his new lover, and things go downhill for both of them after that. I won’t give away too many details, because this is one movie you need to see to believe. The sex scenes where better than I expected. No full-frontal nudity, but there are some butt shots. Lee Williams (Tim) has a great body, a long trunk like a swimmer and great facial expressions during the love scenes to make them believable. To earn money to leave Canada where Tim ends up going to find his new lover, Tim sleeps with a homeless French male prostitute/drug addict. Sex between them gets a bit rough and it’s apparent that Tim is not into the act or the guy. Believe me you guys, everything you do in the dark does come back to haunt you. Tim finds this out when the French guy comes to visit him in Suffolk where Tim eventually returns to when he can’t find his new lover. Tim is having delusions about Ivo and ghosts from his past come back to haunt him for a very good reason, which I won’t divulge. The lead character Tim is a gorgeous guy, tall, brown-haired and green eyes, with full lips. He’s taller than the blond-haired Ivo, but is the bottom in the relationship. There are flashbacks of Tim when he was a kid. Apparently he was a choir-boy at the school he attended and had his first sexual experience with an older guy from school. He too also fell in love with Tim, but apparently that relationship didn’t last past high school since Tim didn’t love him either. The film had an operatic score, since Tim was big into listening to opera music. Even though selfish I didn’t think he was a bad guy. I just think he never learned how to love anyone. And toward the end I found myself rooting for him to come out victorious since he’s been accused of committing a murder. And like every gay-themed movie I’ve ever seen it ends sadly for the character. Why? I’ve watch a lot of these movies and every one of them leaves me a bit disappointed in the end. I will say that I enjoyed everything else and I would watch it again. Shawn Bailey |
